Zionsville Community High School has recently made the decision to transition to a new bell schedule format for the 2018-2019 school year, which includes 2 blocked days a week. On those days, students will only attend a few of their class for a longer period of time. Schools such as Carmel High School currently use a full block schedule.

“At this time, there has not been a specific bell schedule change approved.  The school leadership team continues to work on potential changes for the 2018-2019 school year,”  said assistant principal Greg Hall.

Despite a finalized schedule not being approved yet, many students have varying opinions on this possible change. Some students are hesitant about embracing the change because they do not see a benefit that it may bring.

“I think that the new block schedule will be rather inconvenient in my life because it will make school a lot more confusing and disorienting than it already is. It could be helpful in some ways, I just can’t figure out which ones they would be,” said sophomore Audrey Kruse.

However, other students are eager to see how the change may help their learning experience. Block schedules can provide more time for time for students to learn a specific subject in a given day as well as have less information to process.

“I think the block schedule will be a nice change and overall give us more class time to help us learn. I just don’t understand why they only made the switch for 2 of the five school days,” said sophomore Alyson Kniola.

Whether or not the new bells schedule will be a positive or negative impact on student’s lives can only be discovered with time.
