The Zionsville High School’s Wrestling team is quickly approaching the end of their season. The team entered sectionals on Jan. 28 with a 15-3 record. Eight team members were able to advance to regionals, which are to being held on Feb. 4 at North Montgomery High School.

One team member who will be competing at regionals is Kody Wagner, junior. Wagner, who is ranked 13th individually in State, was a sectional champion and a runner-up in the Hoosier Crossword Conference.

“I’ve done okay so far but I feel like I have more in me,” said Wagner.

In addition to Wagner, both Thomas Penola, junior, and Drew Williamson, senior, are both ranked individually in State. They are third and 12th respectively.

“Our team has done pretty well. We haven’t lost as a team because of a lack of effort. We all give it 100% every time out, not just for us but for ourselves but for our team mates and that’s all we ask of each other,” said Wagner.

Out of the three games that the team lost, one was a two-point loss to Carroll High School, and another was a single point loss to Penn High School. The team took their biggest loss to Avon High School, who won by 26 points.

“I think the season has gone well overall. I feel like as a team we have fixed a few things and that has made us win a  lot,” said Josue Hill, senior.

The team will be competing at regionals on February 4th at North Montgomery High School. Be sure to cheer on the team.
